managed to get it to team but now i can not get the team to work network connections shows up as connection unpluged.

by: Netman66Posted on 2009-10-01 at 17:28:40ID: 25474347

I think you'll need a switch between them.  The NICs should be set to Auto and plugged into a switch.

Otherwise, these cables need to be crossover cables - and even then I am unsure if the teaming software will work in the absence of a switch.

The switch has added Gig17 and 19 to channel 1 and is forwarding (according to the logs above).

How have you setup the Teaming on the server?  Is it switch-assisted load balancing, auto, standby?

Ok, you have setup switch assisted load balancing - which means on the server-side you want to set this to Auto or lock it to switch assisted load balancing.

You don't want the teaming software getting involved with the port bonding because you've set the switch to do it for you.

by: 03671328Posted on 2009-10-02 at 14:17:43ID: 25482315

options i have are adapter fault tolerance
adaptive load balancing
static link aggregation
IEEE 802.3ad dynamic link aggragation
switch fault tolerance...

so i want adaptive load balancing or ieee 802ad dynamic?

by: 03671328Posted on 2009-10-02 at 14:43:08ID: 25482585

so im starting to think there is something wrong with the instlation of the teaming software...
i have tryed all options and they all come back netowork cable unpluged.....

by: Netman66Posted on 2009-10-02 at 15:44:23ID: 25482874

Try setting up the switch as normal ports - not channelled.

Setup g17 & g19:

speed auto
duplex auto
no spanning-tree portfast

Setup the teaming software as Adaptive Load Balancing.

Let me know.

by: 03671328Posted on 2009-10-06 at 08:41:11ID: 25506308

well did as you said... and i have the same issue. comes back as network cable unpluged???

by: Netman66Posted on 2009-10-06 at 09:25:59ID: 25506829

Interesting.

If you disolve the team and use one NIC is it connected?  I'm looking at bad cables or a hardware issue.

by: 03671328Posted on 2009-10-06 at 09:47:06ID: 25507074

when the cable are connected to the team each of the actual team members show a connected link
but the main team stays unconnected...

I think VMWare may be interfering with things.

I see 2 Intel NICs (Local Area Connection & Local Area Connection 2) which should be part of Local Area Connection 5.

Local Area Connection 3 and Local Area Connection 4 should not be part of the Team.

Use a physical NIC as the bridge when it installs - you may need to get the team working before the VMWare networking gets installed.

um lol wow.... u unchecked vmware driver from both the intel cards and the team card and it now has a link. :).

Excellent.

It's important to know all the variables - and I didn't until your screenshot.

Glad it's working now!
