this message ussialy reflect general IP problem.
On PC- from CMD use "ipconfig /all" , "ping www.yahoo.com" , "ipconfig /realease" , "ipconfig /renew" to troubleshoot further/repair IP issue.
If can go on internet you can test your speed www.speakeasy.net or any other speed tests, if not use PC-to-PC "kperform" small soft from http://avcontrol.tv/pics/P
sounds like you are using the wrong key possibly for the wireless. when the 2wires are reset they set back to the default key on the bottom of the modem but can be changed threw the user interface (gateway.2wire.net or the ip of the modem what is the default gateway ip what is usually 192.168.1.254 for 2wire)
i would try accessing the 2wire and then goto the local network or home network at the top then to wireless settings and change the network name (or ssid) and change the encryption key to say your phone # and then try and connect wirelessly again and see if that works.
Is your laptop network card IP set to obtain address automatically? What Ip does ipconfig show? As you have no gateway showing then I supect you will see a 169. address which indicates no DHCP from the router. This may be correct if the server is set to supply it. Check the ip of the server and set your laptop to manual settings in the same subnet range.

check for ur router access ip
it should not conflict with other network device.............. this is one of reason u cant access router... try to reset router using reset button....
for limited connectivity check for link speed settings in lan card ..... auto neg / half /full duplex..
