I currently have a 5 port Linksys SLM2005 switch positioned between our 150MB circuit from our ISP and the untrusted ports of our juniper firewall.
the function of this intermediate switch is split the signal to untrusted ports , so in the event of a hardware failure of one firewall it can failover to the other.
the difficulty has been since we upgraded our connection from a full DS3 (44mbps) to a full OC3 , the switch can't handle the throughput and often needs to be power cycled in order to regain more responsive internet connectivity.
I would prefer find a robust 5-8 port switch with a backplane that can handle the traffic, if not I am not adverse to a 16-24 port solution.
Ideally, i'd like a managed switch with a remote management interface to check port statistics for errors.
we recently made a significant investment in Extreme switches(Summit450s) for our core and remote offices.
does anyone have any suggestions?
