The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. strange ping to router and bad lan speed

when i do a ping to my local router, i recieve one line <10ms and one line ~900ms (not temporary ! - i'm doing a continuous ping and half of the lines are about 900ms)

network: RJ45, 100 BASE-T ETHERNET (3com/intel cards)
network type: windows-shared. one domain server (nobody logs in to it, just used as file server in shared mode)
server: NT4 SP5, P-II-450, 256Mb
all computers: P-III-800 and up, 256Mb, etc...
all computers connected to CISCO XL 2900 switch.
there are 2 switches connected in an 200Mbps backbone (2 cat5 cross-cables)
there are 20 computers.
and go out to the wan by CISCO 1600 router.
all computers are win NT/98.
using NETBEUI and TCP/IP protocols.
file transfer speed : (another problem...) ~ 14 Mbits/sec.
