The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SOHO Pix Configuration Problem

Asked by wparrott in Network Routers

I have recently aquired a Cisco Pix 506e and would like to use it in my home network. Currently I use ICS on a MS Windows 2000 Professional workstation to share my Internet connection with other computers in my house. I would like to setup a dedicated server behind the firewall to run the website. I have successfully configured the Pix to replace the 2k Pro workstation and share the Internet connection with the other computers. The DHCP client is enabled on the outside interface to aquire an IP address from my ISP. My questions are:  Can I use conduits or ACL's to allow outside connections to the internal server? Would static/conduit permit commands work if I used the ip address that was assigned via DHCP?  I know this will work if the outside address is static but what about dynamic (DHCP) assignments? My ISP doesn't offer static addresses currently and prior to installing the Pix I used a dynamic dns service to resolve the website address. Any examples or a good explaination would be very helpful.

Some information which may be useful:

The Pix is running ver 6.2(2)
DHCP is enabled on the outside interface
DHCP is enabled on the inside interface to provide internal addressing (192.168.0.100-192.168.0.200 255.255.255.0)
The internal server is has a static address (192.168.0.10)
The inside address of the Pix is 192.168.0.1

Thanks in advance,

William Parrott
