You need to know subnetting, routing, basic networking, and how to get around the command line interface of a router. It's hard to tell what questions you would get on the CCNA test as they have a 1000 question pool that they pull from. I would suggest getting the Cisco CCNA preparation books as I have found them to have all the answers to the test questions. They are a bit harder reading than Sybex, however once you grasp the understanding of the technology the way the describe it, it sticks with you.

I suggest you get the book as he stated above and study the material.  KNOW subnetting inside out.  Frame relay, ISDN, VLAN's switching etc.   Once you get the basic idea you will be ok.  Also know the command line very well, they quiz on that a lot.

You may want to search brain dumps to help you out, but I have not found many for CCNA, at least when I took it a while ago.

Hello ssshibu

Beware the braindumps M8 take a good look at the questions but all answers are not ness correct!!

I passed it last Nov with about 98% and I have the same approach to all certification exams regardless of which they are, Ive done CompTia, Novell Microsoft and Cisco.

First get your hand on the current Course book for the exam you are taking (for cisco thats easy go to amazon and do a search on the exam number)

Read the thng cover to cover - dont fret if it dosny sink in

Reread it subject by subject and learn each subject

As soon as your through pick a date two weeks from then and book the exam

Now you know the subject, learn the exam!! (these things are not the same as any MCSE will tell you)

You have two weeks to swat up DONT memorise question answers but use the answers to work out whats being asked, cisco like everyone else may have 1000 questions but a lot of them are very similar!!

Be able to speed subnet in your head, this is daunting at first but like learning times tables when you are a kid the more you do the quicker it makes sense (the official cisco book has loads of examples) Learn the quick method (256 is the magic number :0) and learn how to do it in binary (you can double check your answer then!)

Learn switching methods I had lots of question on this and they were mostly the same question!

Learn VLAN technology

Learn IOs commands get a router simulator from bosun software and practise with it, if you can play with routers (not live ones)

The exam now has a simulator on it, I only got two questions on this and they were very simple, there are sites that will let you play with the same interface, get familliar with it so you dont panic in the exam.

Remember like Novell exams when you answer a question (Thats it) you cant go back and review at the end like in a MS exam.

Above all dont panic yes the pass rate is high, but if you put the time in youll be OK.

And if you get stuck or dont understand anything, get back here and post a question, we will help you out

Good Luck

Pete

I have to agree with you Pete, the brain dumps are not that good a resource but if he wants to get an idea whats on the test - then take a look at them.  When you do  look at them you will probably notice that some are wrong in thier answer.   when I took the the test - I looked at them to see what people were getting on the exam.  I really did not use it much.   Read the books, know the sections is all I can say.

is the complete outline for the test.....
