If the 1200 is still prompting you for a password, AAA must be configured on it. Issue the no aaa new-model command and this will stop the 1200 from prompting you for a username.
Also, if you have access to configure the device you can add the following statement to disable the username prompt on whichever interface or telnet line you wish.
aaa authentication login LOCAL none
line vty 4
login authentication LOCAL
or
line con 0
login authentication LOCAL
