Browse All TopicsHi,
Got a user complaning not able to telnet (23) from internal to an external server. We have a fairly complicated corpoarte network, so need to do a little bit troubleshooting before I can find out where the problem is.
Using traceroute or extended PING, I can easily find out where the path is blocked. But in this case, user can PING the external server, but not able to telnet.
My question: is there an easy way to track where exactly is blocking the port 23 traffic? I saw in the command "Trace", it actually asks for "PORT", can I use 23 here so it will only trace port 23?
Thanks.

If you know the network topology then you know the security policy enforcement points.
Obviously, we are looking for a firewall or network device performing filtering. Most corporate security policies will not let port 23 traffic inbound, passwords and data are unencrypted. Why can't the user use SSH, or term serv, most security policies allow this.
