The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. cisco 2960 not seeing existing VLANs as well as....

Our company has about 20 cisco 2950's  and 3550's each trunked to a 6506, all working jim dandy.  But because Cisco no longer sells the 50, we are now buying 2960's.  on any of the newer switches, we are unable to get VLAN 1 to come up, we actually change the management vlan to a different one and do a SHUT on the Vlan1 for security reasons.  But when we creat the interface (int vlan XX) we can get it to come to and up up state.  More over, when we set one of the Gig ports on the switch to be a trunk port and set the vtp info as client and enter the domain name, the trunk never is able to see the other vlans on the network.
The question is, is there some difference between the way the 2950's and 3550's are configured for this as comapaired to the newer 2960"s
i notice that there is now a new command called vspan, can some one explain this to me and is it my problem.
