Sending break to Cisco 2501 freezes router
Hello all:
I just purchased a few Cisco 2501 routers and I'm trying to reset the password. I've gone to the Cisco site and I am trying to send a break to the router as it's booting, biut all I get is:
Abort at 0x10A7CE2 (PC)
>
and then I cannot do anything else. Can some one please step me through the steps to successfully reset the password. Please do not post a link to Cisco's reset password as I have tried to do this but can't seem to get it to work.
I am using HyperTerminal on a WinXP laptop (IBM T20) Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you enter anything if you boot the router normally? If not, I would try a different console cable.

Hey guys:
To answer both questions: I can't type anything at all. It gives me the Abort at... message and jsut sits there.
The router does not seem to boot normally. what happens is it will go through the bootstrap process, it gives me the Press any key to begin (or something similar), it then goes the sequence of giving me the status of each port and then it freezes at Last compiled by johnDoe on whateverDate...
I'm going to test in on another computer to see if there is an issue with Hyperterminal, but I wasn't sure if I was supposed to get the
Abort at 0x10A7CE2 (PC)

and not be able to type anything.
BTW: I have just purchased 4 of these routers to practice and all of them give me the same problem when I am trying to boot them (either normally or by resetting them).
Thanks,

I fixed my situation by changing from HyperTermnal to SecureCRT. It seems that HyperTerminal was locking up. Even though the question wasn't really answered here, I've decided to give donjohnson the points as well as a B rating for providing his last comment on the correctness of the break sequence output.
