I have 3 hosts a,b,c on subnet A all connected to a catalyst 4506 acting as a router and 1 host z on subnet B connected to a catalyst 3750. 4506 and 3750 are connected via dark fiber through an interface configured in VLAN 4 on 4506 to the default VLAN 1 on 3750. I am looking to put all 4 hosts on a single VLAN so that the 4 hosts only communicate with their VLAN members. These switches/routers are both Layer 3 and the hosts are directly connected. Correct me if I am wrong, but since they are not layer 2, no trunking will be needed for VLAN data? I have not yet enabled ip routing on the 3750 but believe I need to in order to forward on VLAN data to the 4506. Is there anything more I need to do besides creating a common unique VLAN amongst all hosts and enabling ip routing on the 3750? 4506 already acting as router. Thanks.
