The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cisco 1841 DSCP 46 to ef QoS

Tags: cisco, router, 1841, t1 wic HDLC
Hi I am configuring QoS on the 1841, but when I type in match ip dscp 46 it saves as match ip dscp ef.

I have the following commands from the hardware vendor (toshiba).  The problem with the phones is a one-way only voice conversation!

Thank, Tom

That is correct, dscp 46 is EF or express forwarding.

I don't think the one way voice is a by-product of your policy although I do see some redundancy there that may cause problems depending on how the rest of the network is setup.

Can you post a full show run so we can see the line types and which policies are being applied?

Based on this I would make a few changes but nothing drastic.

remove the policy from the F0/0 in both directions

On s0/0/0 remove the input policy.

Are the phone voip phones or is this only for communication between key systems?

If just for key systems I would look at the switch they are connected to and make sure they trust the dscp markings from the phone system. If not they may be remarking it to 0 and that would cause issues.

This is for voip phones.  The phone vendor is unable to get the toshiba phones to handle more than one- way voice, and are blaming the problem on the cisco routers. I do not see the QoS in the 1841 as the problem, because the average utiliztion is less than 8% and they are unable to even get one phone to work.  It is my understanding that the QoS policy will only take effect if congestion occures, and at the current usage rate, it is not happening.

That is correct. Queues management only helps with congestion. What is on the other end of the serial connection?

Does who initiates the call determine who can hear the conversation?

02.27.2008 at 11:17AM PST, ID: 20997314
On one side, a managed dell switch that I set up CoS on that connects to a generic d-link switch that the phone vendor provided.

On the voip phone side it is a addtran PoE that also has CoS setup - provided by a thrid vendor.

the caller can hear, but the callee cannot.

Thanks

i misstated.  the caller can be heard, but the callee cannot.

Thanks

So using the same 2 phones calling each other it's always the caller that can be heard and it happens without fail?

I will have to confirm tomorrow.  Thanks for all of your help so far.
