Certain streaming type applications perform unacceptablly on my system. I have a fast cable connection at about 6MB down, plus a recent dual core machine with lots of memory. However, when streaming videos from the TV networks, or using Skype, there is so much stuttering or drop packets at times to make the experience unacceptable. I have decided I cannot use Skype at all.
While talking to a Comcast tech support person about a different issue I brought this problem up. He suggest perhaps my router could be limiting traffic. It is old -- a Linksys BEFSR41.
I am planning to remove the router temporarily as a test, but was wondering if this suggestion even makes sense.
