Hello, I have a Cisco 1700 Series Router and I am attempting to resetup the device. I know a lot about routing, but I have limited experience with Cisco devices. I have setup Cisco Pix 501 devices, but they came with a gui. This device was found on, buried deep within what seemed endless cabling, and several servers. It had no network lines going to or from it so I pulled it. I figured I would A) learn Cisco a bit with it, B) keep it if I needed a router in a pinch, an C) I've got nothing better to do.
So here is my delema. I couldn't find software that was for the initial setup, it turns on but I can't port scan to find what IP it is on, and I'm basically at the starting gate without a clue. I have athe blue serial cable that came with it, and the power cable, but not much else. I do have the initial setup book which says I need terminal emulation software. Again I'm used to setting up routers, but I've only had to setup a few Cisco Pix 501 devices, but they were preinstalled with the gui, and a predefined network which I had to change netmask, IP information, and setup firewall rules for. So I'm not too sure what this all means. Any help is appreciated.
