The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. cannot ping across VPN tunnel from inside the LAN

having trouble reaching the other side of the VPN tunnel from the LAN.  instead of typing out a description of the network, i've attached a drawing of the layout of the relevant parts.  the Internet router and internal core router are located at the same site, same subnet as you'll see.  in fact, they are only separated by an HP switch.  the VPN tunnel has been built to serve as a backup link to the branch from the main site.  when the T1 between the two (172.16.100.x) goes down, traffic is supposed to reroute out the Internet router, over the VPN, to the branch LAN.  

the VPN works - pinging side to side is good.  pinging from the LAN intf on the Internet router is good.  but pinging from one hop further, the core router (any intf), fails.  note it's the same subnet as the Internet router's LAN intf.  an ICMP debug revealed that pings fail somewhere inside the Internet router, so we've narrowed it down to there.  but there's no log that tells exactly what's wrong.  

here's the kicker: when we shut down the T1 to test, EIGRP works fine in that the internal core router properly learns of the new route thru the VPN.  you just cant ping to it.

been on the phone with Cisco support (TAC) and we've tried removing everything from the interfaces, like CBAC, ACLs, PBR, etc.  there are no access lists on the branch router, except VPN specific stuff.  latest guess is to update IOS of Internet router.

so, any other guesses?
