Connecting 2 routers together

Ok, the situation is like this:
I have a cable modem, which goes to a switch, which goes to my downstairs DVR, to my wireless router and to the upstairs rooms.
Upstairs, I have the incoming connection from the switch downstairs, which connects to the upstairs DVR and my Xbox360 and also to a router which connects to 2 other PCs. All the laptops connect to the wireless router downstairs, the desktops to the wired one upstairs.

My question is simple: How can I link these 2 routers together, so I can see the PCs on each router and share files.

One more fact: The DVRs only accept direct input (meaning they must be connected to the modem directly or a switch, I can't use a router for them), and I can only have 1 wire going upstairs (which I already have, so I'm stuck with the current system).
