Cisco QOS setup
We have a Cisco 1811 using a 768k/6m roadrunner internet connection. Exchange 2007 (or any version) has no way to throttle the outgoing bandwidth. So as we know, the uplink saturates with large attachments and kills the pipe for everything else. I want to use QOS to restrict SMTP to a maximum of 384k unless there is no other traffic. Couple ways this problem could be dealt with though. The other side of the coin is that maybe it's better to have 20% minimum for the default class (or a class with everything except SMTP), and 30% min for IPSEC and have SMTP use whatever is left? We get several bursts per day of up to 10 minutes each of SMTP saturation. I'd like to know your thoughts on the best way to go about this. Thanks in advance. Jim.

i put
shape average 384000
but if you excatly restrict
shape peak 384000
will be better.
you asked rest of traffic should be %20 of bandwith. which is not matching with ?IPSEC and SMTP they will not exceed %20 of interface speed.

Thanks equalizer. I may need to tweak it a little afterward, but this will definitely work better than it does currently.

The question I have is with Class AIIIP.
Is SMTP part of this or will it be throttled to 384k due to the other class?
