cisco 2611 and VPN?

I have ver 11.3 software in a cisco 2611. With a great deal of help from Jfredrick29 I was able to take all the LAN machines off of public IP's by making the router do NAT.
Now the time has come where I need to setup up a link from a couple clients out in the cloud to become part of the LAN. I understand that VPN is the solution to this.
Can (or even should) this router become the Security provider/authenticator in the path between the client on the WAN and the internal NAT'ed LAN?
Prior to teh router change the LAN was using Public IPs and I had a Win2000 VPN (DUN) set up that used RRAS on win2000. That worked but I didn't "feel" that it was very secure. We aren't a bank or anything critical but we do have kids around that would like to take a poke at it so I still would like as much security as I can understand and administer.

So if advisable/possible I would like the router to be the gatekeeper of the VPN unless it is inadequate. And if that is true, is server 2003 VPN (DUN) strong enough?
So the questions are:
Can / should the router be tasked with this? if so how do I begin?

If not, how will the VPN traffic pass through the router now that NAT is employed?
