1701, 1710, 1711, and 1712 are fixed-configuration routers. The only thing you can change on a 1701 is to add or remove the internal VPN module.

Browse All TopicsI have a Cisco 1701 router which has two WIC slots
Slot 0 has a WIC-1ADSL installed and slot 1 has a WIC-1B-S/T installed.
I need to physically remove the WIC-1B-S/T from the router but I cannot figure out how to get it out. There are no screws or thumbscrews holding it in that I can see. I've even tried opened the casing, thinking it might come out from inside, but no luck there either. Have checked cisco.com and googled for a solution, but no luck there either.
Help and advice is greatly appreciated.

It turns out they were fixed to the backplate with rivits.
I unscrewed the backplate from the motherboard, and removed it by sliding the cards out from the connecters on the motherboards.
I was then able to drill out the rivets and replace them with 5BA screws.
Put everything back together and it works perfectly. Just got the ADSL WIC installed and it booted fine...

All cisco routers i have seen have 2 screws on the sides of the vic interface as in attached pictures.
But i found a picture where vics seems locked without screws. (third picture)
Maybe you have to simply pull the vic to dismount it.
You have opened the router so you should be able to see if vics are sodered or simply wedge.
