Cisco 3845 router
I have a DHCP server configured in Cisco router for a remote office. The clients connect thru the switch-router and authenticate to our main office connected with a MPLS circuit.
Whenever there is a traffic congestion I am able to pinpoint in that office with IP address, Mac Address and switch port of the host that is causing trouble. Since I do not have a DNS server in that office I cannot know the host name. is there anyway to get that info without having to set a DNS server in that location?
Thanks
John

hi
if your PCs have static IPs,, then use ..ip hos command
ip host
To define a static host name-to-address mapping in the host cache, use the ip host global configuration command. To remove the name-to-address mapping, use the no form of this command.
ip host name [tcp-port-number] address1 [address2...address8]
no ip host name address1 name Name of the host. The first character can be either a letter or a number. If you use a number, the operations you can perform are limited. tcp-port-number (Optional) TCP port number to connect to when using the defined host name in conjunction with an EXEC connect or Telnet command. The default is Telnet (port 23). address1 Associated IP address. address2...address8 (Optional) Additional associated IP address. You can bind up to eight addresses to a host name.
but ,, as per your post,, your pcs get IP dynamically not static
so, may you can make a manual list by writing down MAC address and its hostname .. not through Cisco commands ... hand typing ..

I use a tool called NetScan.exe which is a free download that can identify IP addresses and host names.
If you can get to te environment and can run the software it will allow you to identify the PC causing the fun!
