Problem with Remote Desktop using dlink dir 655 router

Hi there.
At home, II have been using dlink dir 655 wireless router for about 10 months. I now have to connect to my work computer (have not needed to do so before) through remote desktop after establishing VPN connection to my workplace.

When at home I cannot use remote desktop trough my wireless connection. When I bypass the dlink wirelessrouter and connect directly to the comcast cable modem I have no problem accessing my work computer.

You need to configure port forwarding on your dlink....

If you are able to establish the VPN from home to your office it is probably a DNS issue. Try to connnect using the server IP (if you know it).

To confirm whether DNS is working, establish the VPN then open a command prompt and type ping servername and see if it replies. If it does then it is not DNS. If not you could add an entry in your host file that will fix it.

Thank you.
I have configured the port as recommended. It did not work on its own but was probably necessary.
When trying to comply to murgroups suggestions, I was looking at the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client and found under preferences "enable local LAN access (if configured)", I checked that and it works!!
