Netgear WNDR3700

I just bought this new wireless router Netgear WNDR3700 and installed it and everything seems to be working, however, when I pluged my external media drive to the network I can't see it my desktop but I can can see and access it my laptop. I'm using windows vista on both my desktop and laptop. Any idea why it's happening like this?

Does your External media (ext hdd) has a static ip or does it uses a dynamic
install the software (if any) you got with your ext hdd to search for network drive.
if needed connect it directly to your desktop and check media configuration

It's a network hard drive. I pluged it with the network cable. My old router model WNDR3300 from netgear was able to connect and working. I'm wonder why this newer model doesn't see through my desktop. I can see and access it through my laptop.
