Question

Sometimes I can't ping/connect to TP-Link router, but I can surf on the internet.

Asked by: Collis_Dam

Hello!

I have some problem with my TP-Link WR542G router.
Sometimes (don't know why) suddenly I can not surf on the internet and I can't ping/connect to the router (can't access the 192.168.2.1)

Then I click Repair on the network connection, it release the ip, clear the dns cache, and renew the ip. After this I can surf again. But about 5-15 minutes, it breaks again, and I have to repair the connection again. When it makes me so angry, I manually reboot the router. After this I CAN access the http://192.168.2.1 router admin site. And I can surf. But after 2-3 days it happens again. Can't connect to router, internet -> repair -> surfing (but cant connect to router) -> can't surf -> repair -> surfing (but cant connect to router) -> can't surf -> angry -> reboot router -> everithing ok (for 2 days) -> everything starts from the beginning

It is so boring to reboot the router on every 2nd day and do this all again ang again.

What do you think the solution is?

I am using wireless connection.

The settings on my computer:
IP: 192.168.2.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1

The strange is that I cannot ping the gateway(router) but I can surf.

I have Agnitum Outpost Firewall. This all happens when it is completly disabled too.

Please help!

Hi!

Thanks for the answer!
I checked it, and I have the latest firmware, because my router is really new.
So I think this is not a firmware bug. (or others should have this problem too)
Do you have any other idea maybe?

by: prvnkumarkPosted on 2009-10-15 at 06:14:16ID: 25580137

ok can you try with some anyother laptop ,because even if your laptop has some virus and if its broadcasting heavy packets your wireless connection may break, its just an assumption, you may try it.

because there should be problem either with ap or laptop. if we can isolate it then we can resolve it easyly.

by: Collis_DamPosted on 2009-10-15 at 17:08:58ID: 25586027

No, there isn't any virus.
I've checked the firewall log, and there are no strange packets.

But: I've talked with my gf, and she told me that sometimes this problem occurs on her laptop too (we are using the same router)

If I am thinking harder.. Is that possible that this happens after hibernating? Because the last problem was after my windows hibernation. But when I can't access the router, she can't access it either.

Any idea?

No , I dnt think there could be problem with hibernation. can you try resetting your Access point once to factory default and try.

I notice that the IP address of your computer is identical to the gateway ip address.

Can you go to DOS prompt to do ipconfig /all for both the times you can and cannot surf the Internet and post back the results here for troubleshooting?

Procedure for ipconfig

1. Go to Start -> Run

2. type cmd and press enter and you will see a DOS prompt

3. In DOS prompt, type ipconfig /all and press enter

Sorry for not responding for a long time, but as we couldn't find a solution, I've take the router back to the shop/sevice and I bought a new Netgear router. It is work now without any problem.

@jackieman.
It is really strange why I've wrote that because of course the two IPs are not the same. But thanks for pointing on it.
And it is stange too that none of the others noticed that. :)

Thanks for everybody and sorry again for the late.
