Ok,
what operating system, windows?
Make a host file, or open it
Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\driver
put this info in
0.0.0.0 myspace.com
0.0.0.0 facebook.com
Voila.
It's not the most technical solution, but it should work
Just make sure to copy the host file in all machines you want to deny the sites to.

Did that about 3 weeks ago and one of their employees just Googled blocked websites and it tells you how to get into the host file and change it back. Nice try and we thought that was the answer too. I told the employer to just fire whoever is playing on company time. Thats what I would do. Anyway I guess the only fix is to have them purchase a new router that has the capabilities to block websites.
Does the user have admin credentials?
Take ownership of host file, and enable audit tracking for access file, that way, you have documented evidence that may help you in court, if the user gets fired and states that it was unjustified firing.
Is the machine on a domain?
Do you have a Windows Server / Linux Server somewhere in your network that can act as the DNS server?
If so, instead of having your client machines use the ISP's, or Network Device, in your LAN,
have it point to your DNS server, which has a zone made for those two websites, and points the DNS name, to a bad ip.
1. It's free
2. You probably have one server or the other.
3. Takes about 5 minutes to make your new DNS server foward all other requests to DNS server @ your ISP
4. Users in your LAN, cannot change the zone entries, and you can redirect all traffic where you want.
