Cisco 1840 Router ADSL connection

Hi

I have a CISCO 1840 ADSL router which was working fine. We moved premises, then I changed the following the configuration -

ppp hostname
ppp password
ppp sent username xxx password

But I cant get the ADSL to work, I cannot ping anything from the console.

Can someone guide me through this, the basic checks I could do etc. I have configured PIX but not these routers.

Is the actual ADSL link coming up at all? Check interface ATM0 (or something like that) for its state. If the physical link is up, it could also be that you need a different ATM PVC to connect to your new provider ... in the ATM config, you should find something like this:

 pvc 1/32
  pppoe-client dial-pool-number 1

Check with your provider whether the (in this case) 1/32 or whatever you have in there is correct. Also, at the same place, there might also be an entry like this: "dsl operating-mode auto". This may need to be changed if you have it set to something other than "auto" and the new location is incompatible to the setting you have.

HI

The ATM config is standard in the UK, its always 0/38. And that is the case, as the line is already working with another non-cisco router.

So my first question was almost dead on ... ;) Defaults sometimes suck ;) Cisco routers usually have non-Ethernet WAN links on shutdown, so that's one of the first things to do during config ....

Yes, thanks for the input.

Whilst on the subject - do you know the equivalent PIX command to assign a static IP address to a device. In the PIX it would be something like

Static (inside, outside) source ip, destination IP .....
