The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

So, looking at your config does any of it work?

as a brief test you could try to open it up to all ports to confirm that htis issue is not with the server itself.

ip nat inside source static ip 192.168.10.4 207.xx.xx.4

let me know how this works for you,

-t

thank you for your response. I tried the configuration line:
ip nat inside source static ip 192.168.10.4 207.xx.xx.4

router gives me an error

ccrouter1#config
Configuring from terminal, memory, or network [terminal]? t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
ccrouter1(config)#ip nat inside source static ip 192.168.10.4 207.xx.xx.4

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

ccrouter1(config)#

Am i doing something wrong. Thanks in advance.

Thank you again. After entering the correct configuration line, ports are still closed. I can't even ping or trace rt 207.190.208.4.  Is there anything else I have to do?  Thanks in advance.

no0thing in your router config would be blocking that traffic after you put in the nat translation. What do the logs say and more specifically do a debug of the NAT translation when you try to send traffic through to verify that it is making it through the router by typing in "debug ip nat" that should show you that traffic coming in on one port is being retranslated and going through.

hope this helps,

-t

Thanks again. I have activated NAT debug. this is what I get when i try to ping my server. Still no success. Anything else i am missing?

ccrouter1#ping 207.xx.xx.4

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 207.xx.xx.4, timeout is 2 seconds:

01:14:18: NAT: s=207.xx.xx.2, d=207.xx.xx.4->192.168.10.4 [10].
01:14:20: NAT: s=207.xx.xx.2, d=207.xx.xx.4->192.168.10.4 [11].
01:14:22: NAT: s=207.xx.xx.2, d=207.xx.xx.4->192.168.10.4 [12].
01:14:24: NAT: s=207.xx.xx.2, d=207.xx.xx.4->192.168.10.4 [13].
01:14:26: NAT: s=207.xx.xx.2, d=207.xx.xx.4->192.168.10.4 [14].
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)
ccrouter1#

the nat translation is working but it looks like the return traffic isn't making it back, which would mean that it could be a routing issue. or the translated device isn't allowing the traffic to it. take a look at what happens when your traffic goes from the inside out. and what the device does in response to the pings with a packet capture like wireshark, does it see the traffic and send a response?
