The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Subnet Using VLAN Switching or L3 Routing?

Hello,

I've read many posts similar to what I'm trying to do but with different hardware so I decided to post a new question. I hope you experts do not mind.

I have a situation where a 3rd party vendor would like access the Internet from our corporate LAN to monitor their device from outside of our office. I am thinking that I should keep them off of our subnet (192.168.1.X/24) and giving their device another subnet such as 192.168.2.X/24 to keep their device from being able to reach our devices.

I would like some feedback in what is recommended for what I am trying to do to configure this so that they use our Internet connection (we only have one) but not able to get on our LAN 192.168.1.X?

I think I have several options since I have VLAN capable switches. Should I configure VLAN on my HP ProCurve 2810-48G switch or can I just give the 3rd party vendor's device a 192.168.2.X static IP and configure my Cisco 1760 to be able to route the 192.168.2.X IP address through my gateway 192.168.1.1?
