We're suspecting our Netgear 24-port network switch FS524, having served us well for years, is now faulty causing interruptions on data stream on all workstations.
Here's the weird part: I tried replacing it with another, brand new, 24port switch, also unmanaged. Turn the switch off, unplug all network cables then plug them into the new switch. Turn the new switch on and nothing except activity LED's flashing. I can't ping the router nor anything else. I've replaced hubs/switches before and this sequence always worked. I am then forced to put back the old Netgear switch back in action and things are back to normal immediately. I've tried using both a Netgear and a DLink 24port switches for replacement with the same result. What else should I investigate? Could this be the case wherein older hardware tolerates some existing fault in the cabling or connected hardware (just about 10 workstations)? Thank You in advance.
