I have a case of poor application performance. One of our customers is running our application on his wan. The problem began the next working day after a power failure that took down his server room. supposedly the building that utilizes our app the most was not effected by this power outage(please keep this in mind).
Now, the program is a Fox Pro database accessed by a simple network share. the link between the two building is fiber. I've gone as far as restoring the data to a week prior to the failure ( for testing purposes) as well as placing it on another server and still the results are the same. User accessing it in the same building as the server do not seem to have a problem nor do the users accessing Via Terminal services. But when we have the the building that was not hit with the power outage start signing in the system practically dies. If i have them access it via termial services all appear normal.
I as much as had the server brought to that building and I have found 2 or three users will bring that down to crawl.
My 1st thought all along is they need to to reset the switch, finally they have decided and plan to do it later today. Now with all that out in the open. I can't help but think if it is a bad switch should i be seeing excessive network activity on the individual workstation trying to access this data or would i expect see idle network activity? The technician at the site has looked in to status of the switch and all appears normal. i don't recall the cisco model But would a power outage on one switch effect another?
the switch does support voip phone and they are not effected as well all internet traffic for the entire campus passes through that switch as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated Thank you sincerely Rob
