Is a backbone switch going to improve performance on the network

I reecntly installed and configured a Cisco 2960 network switch, it has 2 uplinks at 1Gbps, the other 48 portsd are 10/100.

All ofmy servers here are 1gbps network cards, I was wondering if it made sense to plug the Servers into a smalelr backbone switch that does 1Gbps then uplink that to the 1Gbps uplink on the Network switch.
