Browse All TopicsI reecntly installed and configured a Cisco 2960 network switch, it has 2 uplinks at 1Gbps, the other 48 portsd are 10/100.
All ofmy servers here are 1gbps network cards, I was wondering if it made sense to plug the Servers into a smalelr backbone switch that does 1Gbps then uplink that to the 1Gbps uplink on the Network switch.
Thank you for your advice all.

Before you purchase a switch, you should monitor the utilization on the ports. Just because you can go gigabit doesn't mean you have to. Depending on what type of servers you're running, and the amount of data being transfered, you may not see any benefit.
You could also use two 10/100 ports and bond them to get 200mbps for each server, and fault tolerance.
If you did buy another switch, you could certainly use the HP with the Cisco.

It certainly makes sense... if you have the gigabit cards then use them.
