Switch configuration - can DG be left blank?

Hi,

I have just bought 5 new managed HP switches for our 100 computer network. While adding an IP address via the command console of the switch I am not sure if I need to set the default gateway as we only have 1 broadcast domain. If it is needed should it be the IP of our dns or router. Why would this setting be needed?

Workstation DG are the IP of the ISP router, which gives us Internet connection.

We used to have unmanaged hubs before.

Any advice is much appreciated.
