FIber Connection Between Dell 5324 and Cisco 2900

I'm trying to connect two swicths together via fiber. I'm trying to do this with a  Dell 5324 and a Cisco 2900 XL. I pluged in a fiber optic cord into both and got nothing (If only it was that easy :) ) I have a optical transiever plugged into the dell powerconnect 5334 combo port, when it put the transiever in the dell it does dectect it but it does not detect the connection to the cisco switch. When I plug the fiber into the cisco switch the terminal doesn't show anything. I'm not sure what I have to do to get these to work together. Do i need to setup a upload port on both of them? I've changed fiber cords thinking it was the cord but that didn't work, and when the cord it plugged into the dell I can see the red laser at the other end. I'm really lost as to why I can't these 2 switches to connect via fiber. Please help, any sugesstions???
