Yes, but if all that's available is 500Mbps anywhere along the chain, they're not going to go faster than the slowest section.

As the dark fiber link is very expensive and we nedd, at this moment, less than 500 Mbps bandwidth, we are considering a 500 Mbps dedicated copper link, expecting that the Ethernet ports could be configured below 1 Gbps.
Is it possible?

wel you could use QOS policies to limit the traffic to 500Mbs.
however if any of the otehr links are limited at 500Mbs then you may as well leave the ethernet link running at 1gig. it will run data wuite happly at 500meg. Why do u need to limit it? after all as Darr said if there is a limit of 500Meg at another point in the system then thats how fast it will run..
You dont need to limit a home network connection to the router to 8meg becasue thats the speed of your broadband link.. you will still connect to the router at 100Mbs or 1gig. you 8meg broandband will be the limiting factor on the over all speed though.
I with Darr are a bit confues as to why you feel you need to limit the ethernet link speed?
Thank you all for the quick and precise answers.
Please note, I don't need to limit the link speed for technical reasons. The finance people are limiting my budget, that is the real problem... I have the option of a cheaper 500 Mbps link and was concerned if Brocade will work well on it.
Once again, thanks a lot.

Yes, you can configure the speed on the Ethernet port to be 1000Mbps, 100Mbps, 10Mbps or Auto. (Each setting can also be adjusted to full or half duplex). Go into the Properties of the Network card, go to the Advanced Tab, select the setting for Speed and Duplex, and adjust according to your needs.
Good luck,
Tom
