cisco router disabling snmp

I've configured a cisco router to enable SNMP with the following: snmp-server community public RO

This works fine however it seems to become disabled after a month or so.  I don't believe the switch is being power cycled. I presume the change I am implementing is not modifying a config file permanently.  I know nothing about cisco terminal so please put my reply in the 'noob' category.  Thanks!
