My company is an HVAC(Heating and Airconditioning) contractor.
When we are installing and commissiong equipment and digital controls in a building or series of buildings we place a job server with a wireless router, or several of them if in different buildings to allow our employees to test and verify as they are installing.
I need to find out what are some of the best ways to extend the reach of our wireless routers in these situations. Our server is installed in a rolling metal cabinet that is placed as much as possible in a central location. But some of thses buildings are very large and it does not take too many walls between the server and laptop before we lose a signal. We purchased a couple of high power mast antennas which we tried out but if anything our reception was even worse. Don't know if they are mismatched or require some kind of power amplifier to make them work or not.
Is it possible with some kind of amplifier or antenna to get a reasonable wireless signal at say 1000ft in any direction. Ideally it all needs to be centrally located at or even best phisically secured to the server cabinet.
These are construction sites and small un-attached items tend to wander off quite frequently.
