If the above doesn't work, check your FTP settings by getting a different FTP client and setting up the GoDaddy account. If you can connect from another FTP client, at least we can rule out bad account info.

Browse All TopicsHi,
I'm trying to connect to the FTP host on Godaddy but am having problems. Here is the info I'm putting in under the "remote info" tab:
Access: FTP
FTP Host: ftp://whatyouseeyoucannotb
Host Directory: /
Login: MyLogin
Password: MyPassword
I've left the "Use Passive FTP", "Use Firewall" and "Use Secure FTP" all unchecked (but have also tested them checked). When I test the connection it says An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection with host". I have left the host directory entry at "/" on advice from the godaddy website with dreamweaver.
I don't understand what the problem is because I have other websites connected from Dreamweaver so I know the program isn't the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys

Here is the article on connecting with Dreamweaver on the Godaddy site. Seems straightforward

You're not the only person to have had this issue. It used to be that DW FTP would never connect to a Yahoo hosted site and recently there are people who have trouble with the DW FTP client and GoDaddy.
I'll try to find some of those older questions here, but I seem to remember that the DW FTP client has some issues with certain FTP servers and GoDaddy might be one of them. The PDF talks about DW MX and we are several versions beyond that at the moment.
Yeah, this appears to be a weird GoDaddy / DW interaction.
1) Make sure you are using Passive FTP and Performance Optimization is turned off
2) Make sure DW is patched to 8.02
3) Read this: http://www.mac-forums.com/
There is a post in there that goes into great detail about what you need to do to get DW FTPing with GoDaddy.
Thanks Jason,
I got it working thanks to reading that article you sent the link to.
For future reference for anyone else the current FTP upload document on the GoDaddy site is no longer correct with Dreamweaver 8. You need to:
Set the FTP Host name to your .com name: xxxx.com
hostdirectory: your godaddy hosting login name: /yourname
Then your login name and password.
Go Daddy are still providing that same information and they currently have a customer service response of 5 hours!
I have the same issue, tried every combination of FTP details I could come up with. Their FTP Client in the account does not work. Go Daddy have 3 variations of usernames just to confuse you should you start trying everything possible to connect.
I tried Mozilla and still no luck so has to be the login however if you can login to the hosting account shouldnt the login details for FTP be correct as they are the same?

In theory, yes. However the DW FTP client sometimes does not connect properly with certain server configs.
Most likely you have some minor detail not configured properly. Check with GoDaddy support.

Hi jones_bones,
Under the Remote Info tab, is there a button for "Server Compatibility?"
If so, click it and uncheck Use FTP Performance Optimization and try again.
