Question

Wireless WLAN Card Utility not working

Asked by: Sporty_Muks

Hi Experts,

I am having very difficult time to resolve my issue. Everything was working fine. I had my cpu usage 100% always and some other issues, So thought of formating  and re-installing the OS.
I re-installed OS successfully on my Dell Inspiron 1520 machine. Followed dell driver installation instruction (sequence). Everything i installed from the driver cd provided by Dell. All drivers installed successfully.
But in the device manager i still have yellow mark on Network Controller. I have successfully installed "Dell Wireless 1390 Minicard" from the CD. Still the device manager doesnt show up the successfull installation of Network Controller. I flashed BIOS to A09, I dont remember the old version.
I can see the "Dell Wireless WLAN utility" in control panel, but i cannot open this one.
I tried downloading the drivers from Dell/Support giving my Service TAG. I cannot install them, It says it is not supported on this operating system, even though i downloaded the same version as on the CD.
I have also tred installing Intel/PRO wireless, but no use. It gives me Driver is not installed.
I used the wireless before installation, Its pretty much straight that i had installed "WLAN Minicard 1390"
Here is the dirver information PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4315&SUBSYS_000B1028&REV_01\4&AB208E&0&00E1

Please Help me to resolve this.

That string identifies the card as a 1395 WLAN MiniCard, but it should use the same driver as the 1390, anyway.

Assuming XP since vista Dells comes with a Resource DVD, not Drivers and Utilities CD.

Did the Broadcom 440x 10/100 network controller install OK?

My Bad, I was trying to install Windows vista drivers on XP machine.

Here is how i confused with both drivers.
I entered the service tag while downloading the drivers. The resulting page displayed was "Below are the configuration when shipped" But selection was Windows Vista instead of win XP. I didnt bother to see in the OS version since i believed Dell support :).

Anyways i i downloaded the correct version of drivers and installed. Its working fine now.

I learnt the following:
Driver CD sent by DELL is no more supported for my Wireless WLAN card utility. The reason is very simple, In the driver CD the version for WLAN is 1390 and actually my wireless WLAN card is 1395. I was using 1390 driver for 1395 before, But now once i update the windows it may not support. So i downloaded driver from Dell support.

Any thoughts?

The 1395 uses the same driver install file as the 1390 (and some others) in XP... no matter which of those cards you have it's the same download for either.

Well, http:#a24849849 should probably be selected as the solution, then, if you feel none of my answers provided any help.

As I said in http:#a24838317, the DW 1395 driver for XP -
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R189136&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1520&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=15680&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=259101
is the same install file as for the Dell Wireless 1390 (R189136.EXE) in XP.
