Question

How to delete intel proset wireless profiles

Asked by: swinslow

I have a Dell D620 laptop. It has the intel/proset wireless. Besides the Intel Proset/WIreless software profile screen, where can I go to delete profiles?

Here is what is going on. When I am logged onto the computer with one user id, the profile screen shows the profiles and I am able to connect to the one that I want without any problem. When I am logged on as the primary user, the wireless profile I need, does show up but when I try to connect to it, it trys to get me to re-set it up then tells me the profile already exists.

So, I am thinking that I need to find where the profiles are stored for that user and delete it. Otherwise, what else can I do?

go to control options > NEtwork connections > Wireles Conncetion > Right click, properties > wireless settings & chose let windows manage wireless networks

now you can remove profiles  through that  interface

When I do that, I still do not see anywhere to delete the profiles.

I take that back. I do see the listings, but the connection I am concerned about is not there. It is not showing the ones that set up in the Intel ProSet Wireless, only the ones set up through windows.

A screenshot of what? And It wont let me re-create the profile. It says that it already exists. Even if I give it a different name it wont let me connect to it. I think I need to find where all the wireless profiles for the ProSet Wireles are stored then start over. But, that is the issue. Where are they stored?

well, you can un-install the proset
but you still need the driver, the profiles will be removed

I got it figured out. The profiles are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Intel\Wireless\WLANProfiles
Inside that folder is a file called Profiles.enc. Now, it isnt good enough to just delete that file. I still had the same issue. So here is what I did...
  Switch to Windows manage wireless
  Turn off the wireless
  Reboot
  Delete the WLANProfiles folder
  Reboot
  Turn on the wireless adapter
Switch back to Intel ProSet Wireless to manage wireless.

Not really. The main issue was that I needed to figure out the location of where the profiles are stored.

If you move that file to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intel\Wireless\WLANProfiles
does it let you use the profiles from any user?
Or isn't that what you wanted to do?

After you create the new profile, make sure you use the proset advanced settings to make the profile available to all the users on bootup so you do not have the same problem... you can also set it so other users have to use the one profile and cannot create additional ones.
