CompUSA sells an internal PCMCIA card reader that mounts in the front of your desktop http://www.compusa.com/pro
After some more searching, I found a card that will work:

My initial reply still stands. I would still add an AP to your network (directly to your PC) so you didn't have to remove your card from your laptop to use your desktop. With the extra AP, you could have both machines on the network at the same time.
Good news so far, problem being my laptop is slow and old (Celeron 633) and my stand alone is Athlon 2000 so don't really want to go through laptop. The card is already configured to network (Orange mobile office) so was hoping to just plug in, run setup CD and it would work. Will check out websites and get back to you. Thanks for info so far.

I know what you're trying to do... I had to figure this out at my own home. The PCI to PCMCIA adaptors I've found are very old and unreliable. I have one but it caused so many problems that I don't use it any more. I couldn't find one for sale on The internet, in fact, it's one I found lying around at The office.
Anyway, here's what you really want to do. Buy The same type Access Point that you already have. Get a x-over cable and plug The AP directly into The nic card of your computer. Set The SSID to The same SSID as your other AP. The two will talk to each other and pass data to each other. It's just like having The pcmcia card in your laptop. The benefit is that you also gain more coverage area as your laptop will connect to The AP that's hooked up to your computer as well.
Give The AP that's hooked up to your computer a IP address of your choosing. It's a MAC layer bridge and doesn't really need an IP address to pass The traffic. It's mainly for administration (unless you have a 3 in one Linksys type combo). Have your PC DHCP so as to pull an IP from your provider. This way, you don't waste IP addresses on your AP.
