Laptop will not show a specific wireless connection.

This really is a friends problem but it's now mine because I have been trying to sort it out for him :)

He has a home network with a wireless router. My laptop has no problem in seeing his wireless router but his laptop cannot see the connection.

If I take his laptop within range of any other wireless router it sees it and can connect to the internet through it (security settings permitting).

Where do I begin to look for a solution to this problem?
