The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I have 2 laptops, 1 dell inspiron 6000 and 1 fujitsu.

Both detect a WIFI signal of equal strength and both connect but the dell when using an internet browser  cannot open internet pages (times out usually) or when it does connect it is very  very slow to connect and then usually will time-out again when I try to surf to another page

But Ares Ultra (a p2p client) can download at speeds of 80+kb/s even at the same times I cant connect to the internet wiith a browser. I've tried closing the p2p client but it makes no difference to my browser connectivity

The signal is for a free wifi connection supplied by the apartment building office so I have no access to the router.

After reading some solutions here I was checking some of my settings and see my NIC is turned off. I don't know if this effects anything but tried to turn it on anyway. However, I cannot find where to turn NIC on.

All of my drivers are up to date for dell and BIOS.

About 5 days ago the connection seemed to be working fine but not now.

An event that did occur is I downloaded a software with the p2p client and it was a virus. I removed the virus with kaspersky, checked my reg with hijackthis and did a re-install of windows, reinstalled my wireless driver then removed recently installed programs but none of these made a difference.

I also tried using a Belkin and then a Linksys USB Network adapter but still no luck.

I was not able to do a system restore as preventing them was a function of the virus.

As far as I can tell there is no trace of the virus anywhere, I have made the guess it made have changed some of my settings.

Please help me connect to the internet with my browser.

Thanks
