AirPort Express not joining network
I recently got an new AirPort Express 802.11n in order to use AirTunes to stream music wirelessly to my sound system. The problem is that when I try to set the AE up to join to my existing wireless network (a bog standard g network run by a Linksys WAG54G V.3) it simply disappears, and the status light flashes amber. There is not way I can contact the device either through the AirPort utility or the network, the only way to get it to respond is to manually reset it, and then it's back to square one. The only way i can set it up is to create it's own network, but then i can't access the internet while I'm playing music.
Now I was under the impression that the AE n was also backwards compatible with b and g networks, at least that's what is say in the specs, and i have no problem connecting to it when it has it's own network, and my laptop (Windows) doesn't support n networks. I have tried setting up an older AE g, and that worked like a dream. I tried exporting the settings from that device and then importing them into mine, I have removed wireless security, manually entered IP settings and messed with every single setting i could find, all to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

According to Apple the answer is you can't. They must have changed the firmware since your older model.
Question: Can AirPort Express wirelessly extend ("repeat" or "rebroadcast") the network of a third-party access point?
Answer: No. But it can wirelessly extend the range of a WDS network that is being hosted by an AirPort Extreme Base Station or another AirPort Express.
