can anyone tell me of any companies that do good prices of wireless router for small to medium sized businnesses
im presume if i wish to protect clients data it should be:

Do you want a wireless router that allows access to the internet and provides wireless or do you just want an access point that just provides wireless? Linksys and Netgear is about as cheap as it gets and you can get wireless routers on Ebay dirt cheap. They will provide B/G wireless along with your WPA authenticated encryption and AES data encryption capabilities. You may even be able to get an N model pretty cheap.

Clarification required on a couple of things:
1. what type of Internet are you using? Cable, DSL. ADSL, etc.
2. WEP is not considered to be secure anymore.
3. If you are asking for the companies that manufacture AP/ WiFi routers, you could look at Netgear, Linksys, Cisco (not necessarily cheap) or Buffalo, Alfa, SMC (usually are cheaper).
4. If you are asking for stores that sell these at reasonable prices, you need to tell us your location first. Assuming by the time-zone specified by you, I'd say you are in the UK, and hence the following stores would be worth having a look at: (these are not endorsements, just some of the online companies that I'd good experience with)

thanks all for your comments. i didnt realise that some wireless routers only allow someone to have network connectivity and not INTERNET!!
as for cable, dsl, adsl etc this i would decide after i know what a customer wished, but i understand your analogy!! and i will look at those (.com stores) thanks!

wpa aes are the best that i know of
although ive seen ethernet wireless which means the antenna modem uses an ethernet connection so when user walks around the house or office they can get a signal. but if signal wasnt as good would i buy an AP to extended signal or is this for the wireless ethernet?
