It's going to be a power management issue.

Sadly Macs are set so you can't fiddle with much so you can't play with these settings. What I would do though is check for updates on the Mac and firmware updates on the Airport access point.

So, is it after the Mac has gone to sleep or into some screen saver mode or is it some random event?  I'm using Airport Extreme wireless routers and I have no trouble with my Macs connecting, staying connected or reconnecting after coming out of sleep mode. I have had issues with cheaper wireless routers, but it does appear that while she's using the device it stays connected just fine.

If it is a power thing, you can go into preferences and modify times for shutting down various parts of the Mac or when the screen saver comes on.

When your wife leaves the computer, does she log out or puts the computer to sleep?
P.S.: Snow Leopard versions start at 10.6

TO: TECHNASOLUTIONS:

BY FIRMWARE UPDATES YOU MEAN TO THE BELKIN ROUTER I USE? THAT WOULD BE THE ACCESS POINT FOR THE AIRPORT  NO ?

WE HAVE NO SCREEN SAVER PER SE BUT THERE IS A STANDBY TYPE MODE THAT THE MAC GOES INTO WITH BLACK SCREEN - WE JUST TAP THE KEY BOARD AND IT COMES ALIVE AGAIN. IT IS DURING THIS PERIOD THAT THE DISCONNECT FROMN THE INTERNET OCCURS AND THE RECONNECT DOES NOT HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY DESPITE THE FACT THAT UNDER INTERNET CONNECTIONS I HAVE SELECTED "CONNECT TO ANY NETWORK I HAVE CONNECTED TO PREVIOUSLY.

Yes the Belkin router - see if there is a firmware update.

It's definitely the standby that is causing the disconnect but it should (as you say) reconnect when it comes back up. All of mine do.

You could stop standby (not green) or if the firmware update and the Apple update of the Imac doesn't help then it may be time to change your wireless access point.

Tks,

Would the Belkin possibly have a setting that would (if not corrected ) throw the Mac off the connection ?

There seems to be no trouble whatever with the reconnect (except for the annoyance).

Just wonderin'...is there a known more Mac friendly access point ?

Everything points to the Mac being at fault actually as I can't see what on the Belkin should cause this issue but odd combinations do throw up odd issues. You don't get more friendly than an apple airport if changing.

That is my feeling as well.
I'm afraid an Apple chatgroup might unearth a more detailed answer. But with respect to them, that can be a second full-time job just to mine the info.
