printer won't work

I installed windows 98 ungrade and had a ton of problems and one being hardware conflicts with the LPT 1(printer) and com 1. and so I gave up after having a friend download SND4-W98-EXE a fix from PB that didn't help and reformatted but I still had the conflict and so I called Packard Bell and they had me build a partition in the coms and reformatt again and that fixed my hardware conflicts(no yellow ?) but my fax and printer wouldn't work even though there were no yellow ? so I called them again and they fixed my fax but PB won't help with my printer because it is not one of theirs. I have done everything to check it out, new inkers, checked cables, turned off spooling, sent print directly to printer and still not working, please what could it be.
