HDD missing in action

Ok ... here's the thing .. I had linux lycoris/LX installed onto a hdd on my comp,I no longer want the installation on there so i asked a friend how to take it off ... I was told to fdisk/mbr , which i have done but DOS and windows(98SE) isn't detecting the drive now (E:) and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about getting windows to recognise it again. I am new to all of this an i would like to be able to do this without taking it anywhere or calling someone in to do it for me. THNX
