direct 3d problems

Asked by: sat1ss

I recently installed a 3D game, Beach Head 2002 & upgraded my direct x to version 9.0 therafter went my ability to play 3D games. Upon running Direct X diagnostics, it says the installation is fine but yet when i attempt to test direct 3D, the screen flickers but then it prompts me that i pressed a button cancelling the test.

There were no programs running, i have tried everything including switching off Norton antivirus, reinstalling all my drivers, etc but to no avail....

I believe Direct X 9.0 is a beta version.
I would uninstall it and return to a previous version.  What operating system do you have?  I would go here and download the appropriate version of Direct X for your OS.

Hi!

Direct X 9.0 is BETA, wich means it is not finished yet... worst of all, it doesn´t have an unistall utility and you MUST remove it completely to get the system back to where it was...

advice:  re-install the system and NEVER install BETA software unless you know what you are doing..

good luck!!

I am having the exact same problem with this, I have a Geforce 4 as well, i belive this is only originated in Geforce 4 catagory. Godardth is wrong. DirectX 9 version 4.09.0000.0900 is NOT beta. Try testing Direct 3D in DirectX, it may not work. I have another computer running DirectX 9 with a Geforce 2 and everything works. Downgrading to direct x 8.1 might work, I will try it. and keep you posted. Someone aught to let microsoft know that they released DirectX way too soon without looking at all possibilities. Most Geforce 4 chips are designed for DirectX 8.1 aswell.

I forgot to include: Downgrading to DirectX 8.1 only works when uninstalling all of DirectX 9.

try installing the dx9 web setup again, might do away with the need to erase the old one an the problem might have bin fixed since, i have a gf4 ti4600 runnin dx9 on latest detonators, thats a point, on old gf2 used to do the same goto http://www.nvidia.com and update your drivers, you may find that you have no problem anymore, that fixed my gf2 anyway. that was blankin and exitin (in extreme cases) and hanging the pc upon d3d's use,

by: skunk_goodPosted on 2003-02-04 at 06:30:16ID: 7875181

soz was gonna say dx9 works fine on my card (till i realised about the detonators thing)
