can I hookup laptop to TV?

I've got an HP omnibook P3, about 3 years old. Can I hook this up to my TV to use as a monitor via the TV's DVD jacks? or any other way? Can I at least play the DVDs that I can play on the computer on the TV? What kind of wiring do I need to get?
