can I hookup laptop to TV?

Which model of omnibook do you have?

If you have an svideo-out jack or rca video-out jack, you'll be able to hook a standard male-male RCA or svideo cable up to your tv.  (Or an svideo to rca adapter if your tv doesn't have svideo)

If you've got the video out jack, then your video drivers will have a tab in the properties dedicated to the output of the video, whether to the LCD or the TV or both.  Select it there.

You can by a 1/8" stereo miniplug to two RCA male cable at radio shack to hook up the headphone jack to the L/R audio inputs of your TV.

Somebody else was talking about this in a different question, so I tried it on mine last night.  Less than $20 worth of parts at radio shack ($20 canadian, which is like 45cents U.S. or something, lol, just kidding) and it worked beautifully.

If you do not hadve svideo for your laptop, it is still possible to project on your tv is there is a vga port on the rear.  You will need a scan converter to do this though and that will be between $50 and $100 depending if you get a used one or not.

I guess the dream was a magic $10 cord that used my USB or monitor output (all I've got, unless there's an even more magical ethernet or headphone out) and the TV a/v input, but it seems a new DVD player is in order.

If you had read the specs you would have seen that this  http://www.partshelf.com/scepusbtvtum.html had TV out as well and was much cheaper $66.95 than the unit you suggest...

Just plug this into your USB port, your antenna or cable, and load the software.  You can watch TV in a window or full screen on your computer, capture and edit video from TV, from your VCR or your Camcorder.  With this, you can use your video camera for videoconferencing, as a webcam, or you can send video in Email."  They make mention to TV out, but it is unclear that this is to be used to "mirror" the lcd desktop to the TV.  This may only allow the editted video out, not everything on screen.  It is funny that they make such a big deal about watching tv on the computer but never make mention of watching the computer on tv.  you could purchase the $67 unit, but would have no guarantee by that page that it would work.  Or you can buy a used AVerkey and I know that it will work because it is used on a daily basis by several organizations that broadcast computer to their tv's for presentations.

As for $66.95 being cheaper, a DVD player can be found for under $50 now and that is cheaper than either of our suggestions.
