The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

!!!URGENT: Been pulling my hair out on this!!! New Linux Box Freezing/Kernel Panic

Asked by MythosBSW in New Computer Users

I don't really know if this is the right area to ask this question, but it was either this, or the Linux area, and that didn't have anything that matched all that well. So here's the problem. I just made a brand new computer from new parts on the internet. Got everything plugged in and set up. Install Mandrake 9.0 on the machine and am having problem. Mandrake will either freeze in places (unconsistently), or it's kernel will panic. And for the life of me I can't figure out where the hell I'm going wrong. Here's my hardware.

Seagate ST320011A / Barracudea ATA IV Series 20.4GB EIDE HD
2X 256MB DDR266 PC2100 266MHz RAM
Pioneer 16X DVD-ROM Drive (Product # DVD-117MG-BLK, Manufacturer Part # DVD-117MG
ABIT KD7-S (VIA KT400/VT8235 Chipset) Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP2400+ Thoroughbread Core Processor
Thermaltake Volcanoe 7 CPU Heatsink and Fan
PNY Verto GeForce4 MX 440-SE AGP Vid-Card
Dell Monitor, Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard, Logitech Optical USB moust w/PS2 adaptor, all connected through a KVM switch

So I dunno wether to ask of this setup is compatible with Linux, or if it's compatible with itself (hardware wise) or what? Basically is there any reason whatsoever that this setup would freeze Linux the way it does? Or must there be a piece of faulty hardware? Thank you for your time. I've pulled my hair out for almost two weeks on this.
