usb pc camera installation
hi,
the usb pc camera e-video dc100 on my xp machine has stopped working after i changed it fron usb port in the front to the rear one. windows now detects new hardware but complains of data error(cyclic redundancy check) and does not install. after uninstalling some registry entries remain in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\

USB ports are painful in that each one wants a driver associated with it for the device. The best to do all this is to completely get rid of the existing driver and start again.
To do this properly you have to see the device (and all instances of it - hidden or not). Make sure you are loigged on with an account which has administrative permissions.
In XP, open up a command window (Start -> Run then type in cmd and run it)
At the command prompt Type in:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_dev
then
start devmgmt.msc
this will open up a device manager properties window. In the View menu, selevt "Show Hidden Devices"
Under "Imaging devices:, locate your camera name and delete it agreeing to remove it all.
Then, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, look for your camera device and delete all instances.
Unplug your camera and reboot your computer. Have a cup of coffee while it does all that crazy background stuff after it says you can log in. Then plug in your camera to the port you want it in. Reload the drivers.
Another possibility is that you have a flakey USB connetor on the fron panel. I have a couple of Dells where stuff will work fine in a rear port but not in the front ones. In addition, the fron one is USB 1.1 while the rear ones are 2.0. Is yor camera 1.1 compliant?

the device dc100 did turn up in the hidden imaging devices, but does not get deleted. a message pops up saying failed to uninstall, this device may be required to boot up the computer.
the camera does have with a cd with the drivers( with which the cam was originally installed) but now after installion completes with this cd, it asks to plug in the cam and then windows detects new hardware and tries to install it again.
the same thing happens with font and rear ports
Not unusual for USB devices to have their drivers installed first, then ask to be plugged in, then get some more bits. Check in the services of your PC and see if it has placed anything in there (or the startup/autorun areas). If there is a service running you may not be able to delete it. Also, check to see if you can turn" off " the device through the "Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray. If you can remove the actual camera this way by stopping it, then try to delete the device as mentioned above. Try cursing, swearing and banging your head also. While this doesn't help the situation it can give you a perverse sense of well being :-). Let me know how you go.
try to upgrade your imaging device drivers... manually locate the drivers from the cd ... this could resolved that kind of problems....
selest your current imaging device from Device Manager....
select the properties then update drivers ... then give it the location of the drivers cd which come with camera.....
If it not detects update drivers then choose it from the list of drivers from that location manually ....
You also might like to try a different driver. This one for the Chicony e-video dc100 (Is that what you have?) is from the drivergudie website - no guarantees but using computefellow's instructions point your installation of a new driver at thie unzipped directory from this file:

If you have not got this camera, let me know and I'll see if there is another driver specific for your camera around. Also, can you tell me what brand of PC you have?
Oh, and another thing - some USB drivers cannot be installed if you have old USB devices installed. These old devices may have drivers which are not 100% compatible with your windows version and may be preventing the camera from installing correctly (ie: it get's half installed).
You could also try unisntalling the driver in safe mode. When your windows is starting up, press F8 and boot up in safe mode. Unistall your camera and then reboot into full mode. Then try installing with the procedure described in your camera's manual.
If t hat doesn't work, you may like to try uninstalling (in safe mode) all your USB devices and then adding your camera as the first new device.

while using the driver from the cam cd windows says it is not tested for the XP compatibility. there seems to be no xp certified driver for this device.
